To the Editor:
The purpose of this letter is to alert readers to the fact that 1) the U.S. Department of Education (USDOE) is attempting to change federal regulations regarding Title IX, and 2) citizens only have until September 12, 2022, to send comments to the USDOE concerning these changes.
Passed by Congress in 1972, the Title IX law prohibits discrimination "on the basis of sex" in activities or programs by any educational institution that receives federal financial assistance. Succinctly stated, the proposals broaden the law, without Congressional approval, to include "sexual orientation and gender identity."
A partial list of examples of the consequences of the new regulations:
1) Schools would be required to permit males who think they are females to utilize restrooms and locker rooms that are currently designated for females only.
2) The members of school sports teams would be based on gender identity instead of biological sex.
3) K-12 school officials would be forced to support children who want to change their sex without requiring officials to notify parents or to involve any medical professionals.
Action steps: Go to the website childparentrights.org. The site contains additional information about the proposals, and most importantly, provides a portal to send comments to the USDOE via the box entitled "Send Your Comments to the Federal Register Here." Be sure to include the Docket ID in the subject line when writing your comments. (The ID is on the website referenced above.) All comments are accessible to the public for viewing.
This process is not a hard endeavor. Thanks for taking the time to read this letter. I shall close by encouraging "We the People" to make our voices heard, whether it be "Yea" or "Nay" regarding this matter, by September 12th.
