Another suspect has been arrested in connection with assaulting a man in Tate County.
Investigator Destin Johnson from the Tate County Sheriff’s Office said Gary Arterburn, 31, of Hernando, was taken into custody Tuesday, April 18, and charged with aggravated assault as the result of a continuing investigation of a February incident on Red Bud Cove. His bond was set at $100,000.
Three other suspects identified by Johnson as Billy Morrow, 38, of Sarah, Billy J. Starkey, 40, of Coldwater, and Freddie B. Wilson, 30, of Sarah, were previously arrested in connection with the crime.
Both Morrow and Starkey were charged with aggravated assault and conspiracy. Morrow was held at the Tate County Jail under a $100,000 bond, while Starkey’s bond was set at $1,500. Wilson was charged with aggravated assault and possession of controlled substance with intent to sell and detained under a $20,000 bond.
Johnson said all four men have been released from jail after posting bond.
TCSO was dispatched to Red Bud Cove near Sarah Tuesday, Feb. 21, at approximately 8:30 a.m., after receiving reports of an altercation in the area, according to Johnson.
Deputies discovered a man with head injuries outside his vehicle on Rader Creek Road a short time later. He was transported from the scene to Regional One Medical Center in Memphis. Officials did not release the victim’s name.
Johnson said two shots were fired during the incident and the entire Strayhorn school campus was briefly placed on lockdown as a precaution.
