A man arrested in 2021 after leading Senatobia police officers on a high-speed chase across the state line has been sentenced in Tate County Circuit Court.
Documents show TreShawn E. Johnson, 21, of Memphis, was ordered to serve five years in Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) after pleading guilty to one count of simple assault on a law enforcement officer.
Johnson had a charge of felony fleeing remanded to the file. His five-year term will run concurrently with a previous five-year sentence in MDOC he received in Panola County for an enhanced charge of possession of marijuana.
According to a report from the Senatobia Police Department, an officer conducted a traffic stop of a black Infinity Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2021, southbound on I-55 near mile marker 264 at approximately 7:10 p.m. The officer attempted to place Johnson, the driver of the vehicle, under arrest following a roadside investigation.
The report stated Johnson fled the scene after a brief struggle in which the officer was struck in the head and suffered minor injuries. Johnson returned as the officer was attempting to arrest the passenger, Zykeese A. Reynolds, 22, of Horn Lake, got back inside the vehicle and fled northbound on I-55 after crossing the median.
Officers pursued the subjects north on I-55 before the vehicle ran across stop sticks deployed by neighboring law enforcement officials and was eventually disabled across the Tennessee state line near the Shelby Drive exit.
Johnson was apprehended by a police K9 unit with assistance from several agencies and initially charged with assault on an officer, felony fleeing, resisting arrest and multiple traffic violations. Reynolds was charged with resisting arrest in connection with the incident.
Johnson was indicted by the Tate County Grand Jury in July 2022.
