The Senatobia Municipal School District increased its budget for the 2025-26 school year despite significantly dropping the millage rate for taxpayers.
Senatobia schools will receive $6.6 million from ad valorem taxes after a 5.88 drop in the local millage rate from 64.99 in 2024-25 to 59.11 in 2025-26. State sources will provide the district with $13.5 million and federal a supplement of $3.3 million.
Projected revenue for 2025-26 is $28,085,587 and split between three entities ¬– local (33%), state (54%) and federal (13%). The budget has been approved by the school district’s board of trustees and includes projected expenditures for 2025-26 of $37,279,459. That total includes instructional, non-instructional, support services, facilities acquisition and construction, and other financial expenses.
Senatobia schools operated with a $24.7 million budget in 2024-25. The district’s main expenditures for 2025-26 include $13 million for instruction and $11 million for support services.
The average percentage for administrative expense ranges from 15 to 20-percent. Non instructional traditionally averages around 15 percent and instructional averages from 70 to 75 percent.
The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) reported Senatobia Municipal School District earned a B accountability grade in 2023-24. Senatobia Elementary School earned a B, Senatobia Middle School earned a C, and Senatobia High School earned a B.
MDE indicated Senatobia MSD employed 122 teachers. Per-pupil expenditure was $11,837.54, according to MDE.
