A Senatobia man was taken into custody in DeSoto County after attempting to flee troopers from the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
A report from MHP states Jacob Allen Smith, 27, was charged with multiple felony and misdemeanor offenses following an incident Thursday, Jan. 2.
At approximately 5:25 p.m., state troopers were conducting a safety checkpoint on Highway 301 in Desoto County when a 1998 Ford F-150 driven by Smith made a U-turn and fled before reaching the scene, according to the report.
Troopers pursued Smith until he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into an MHP patrol car near Star Landing Road on Highway 302.
Smith was transported to the DeSoto County Adult Detention Facility and detained under a $31,000 bond. He was charged with DUI-first offense, felony fleeing law enforcement, no insurance, disregarding traffic control devices, improper lane usage, no seatbelt, child restraint violation, expired driver’s license, driving on wrong side of the road, child endangerment, speeding, reckless driving, probation violation and contempt of court.
Smith is scheduled to appear Wednesday, Feb. 12, in DeSoto County Justice Court.
