The National Day of Prayer is set for Thursday, May 6 this year with the theme “Love, Life, Liberty” taken from the scripture 2 Corinthians 3:17.
Proclaimed by President Truman in 1952, the celebration wasn’t signed into law until the following year. This year’s event will be the 70th year despite having undergone various name changes throughout the years. Earlier recognition of this observance was established by President Lincoln.
The event is set to take place at Gabbert Park in Senatobia and marks the 27th year of celebration locally.
Local church leaders will begin to pray and preach at noon.
Penny’s Pantry will provide sack lunches.
Area organizations, churches, civic groups and individuals are encouraged to participate in the event.
