A Senatobia man was sentenced to 40 years in Parchman following a sentencing in Tate County Circuit Court Thursday, Feb. 16.
Kolby May, 29, was arrested Friday, May 13, of last year for charges of sexual battery of a child under 14 following a report from Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital. Senatobia Police Department launched the investigation and brought charges against May, a former officer at Northwest Mississippi Community College.
Character witnesses for May spoke remorsefully and asked for May to face judgment from a higher power; however, Judge Smith Murphy reinforced the court of law was one of a human code of ethics.
“This Court is not charged with determining anyone's salvation,” said Judge Murphy. “That's, I believe as was testified to, a power much higher than here. This is a place where you're punished and determined by man's law.”
May was sentenced to 40 years on two counts of sexual battery of a child and 40 years on seven counts of possession of child pornography to be served concurrently without the possibility of parole. He was fined $50,000 by the court.
May was immediately taken into custody.
