In a classic down-to-the-wire match against Olive Branch last Thursday evening, Senatobia prevailed in a tight fifth set, earning a 3-2 triumph against the Class 6A Lady Conquistadors.
Senatobia opened the match with a solid 25-16 first set win, but Olive Branch grabbed the momentum in the following set, taking a 25-15 decision. With the match tied at 1-1, the Lady Warriors jumped out on OBHS early in the third set, cruising to a 25-8 margin.
Now leading the match at 2-1, Senatobia came close to closing out the match in the fourth set, only for Olive Branch to keep things close down the stretch. Ultimately, the Lady Conquistadors edged SHS in the fourth set, 25-23, forcing the decisive fifth set.
As is the case in most fifth sets, it was a back and forth battle between both teams, but the Lady Warriors emerged with the 15-13 victory and the overall match victory.
Savannah Berry and A’Destiny Bogan combined for six of the Lady Warriors’ eight kills in the match, while Berry also put up a team-high three blocks. Erin Burrow accounted for four service aces, followed by three apiece from Bogan and Colby Grant.
With the win, Senatobia moved to 4-2 on the season, as Olive Branch dropped to 0-7. The Lady Warriors will travel to Water Valley on Tuesday, August 29, before visiting Hickory Flat on August 31.
Region competition is slated to begin on Tuesday, September 5 at North Pontotoc. All three of the aforementioned contests are scheduled for 6:30 P.M. start times.
