This morning, Sunday, Feb. 11, Tate County Sheriff's Office apprehended Kenneth Graham peacefully and effectively ended the manhunt which began Saturday after Graham allegedly shot at TCSO deputies.
Tate County Sheriff Luke Shepherd said he was thankful for a peaceful resolution.
"Kenneth Graham was peacefully taken into custody at 8:22 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, after voluntarily turning himself in to Tate County Sheriff’s Office deputies. This is an ongoing investigation and further charges may be pending, but at this time no other details will be released," said Shepherd.
The incident began around noon Saturday after TCSO responded to a dispatch call to the 2900 block of Highway 305 near Independence High School. When deputies arrived on scene shots were fired at them, according to reports. Backup was called for from other departments, and DeSoto County Sheriff's Office and Senatobia Police Department were dispatched to the scene.
Graham fled, and a manhunt was issued. A text from the Tate County emergency alert system was issued at 12:53 p.m. The message said there was a heavy law enforcement presence in the area around the high school and to avoid the vicinity of Highway 305 between House Road and Poagville Road due to barricade from police.
"We are very thankful for local volunteer fire departments for responding and blocking off traffic for hours in the rain in order to maintain the safety of citizens and preserve the crime scene," said Shepherd.
Law enforcement continued the search long into night-time hours and issued a Be On The Look Out alert and a warrant for Graham's arrest.
TCSO received a call Sunday morning that Graham wished to turn himself in to custody.
"I am thankful for the deputy’s hard work, diligence and perseverance during this ordeal while enduring less than ideal weather conditions. It is never a good day to receive a call about shots fired at law enforcement, but I am thankful no one was injured. We are grateful for DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office and Senatobia Police Department for their response and backup to our deputies. Ultimately, everything was resolved peacefully, and that is always the goal," said Shepherd.
