Close to a pound of marijuana found in vehicle.
Two people were taken into custody after Senatobia police officers confiscated close to a pound of marijuana during a routine traffic stop on Interstate 55 earlier this month.
Sgt. Blake Warren, detective with the Criminal Investigations Division of the Senatobia Police Department, identified the suspects as Jessica K. Coleman, 21, and Jaterrious Williams, 23, both of Memphis.
Warren said police officers stopped a dark gray Nissan Maxima traveling southbound on I-55 without a license plate Monday, June 14, at approximately 2:15 p.m. He said a strong odor was coming from the vehicle and officers spotted a small bag of marijuana. A backpack filled with individual baggies of marijuana was discovered under the front passenger seat during a search, according to Warren.
He said the total weight of the marijuana taken from the vehicle was 14.1 ounces.
Both Coleman and Williams were charged with possession of controlled substance with intent to sell in connection with the incident.
Coleman, the driver of the vehicle, was also ticketed for various traffic violations including no license plate, driving with suspended license and no proof of insurance.
She was processed at the Tate County Jail and released under a $16,000 bond.
Warren said a four-year old girl riding in the back seat of the vehicle was released to family members a short time later.
The incident remains under investigation by the Senatobia Police Department.
