Tate County ranks 49th in the state with people that owe taxes to the Internal Revenue Service, according to an online map from financial technology company SmartAsset.
Statistics, based on findings provided by the IRS, show 1,890 residents of Tate County owe an average of $3,287.
On the flip side, Tate ranks 57th, among 82 counties in Mississippi, and 620th nationally with 9,460 people that receive an average tax refund of $3,074.
Claiborne County is the number one county in Mississippi for average tax amount refunded per filer at $3,992, including 2,780 taxpayers receiving refunds. Madison County has the highest number of citizens owing taxes with 12,520 and the highest average of $6,984 each.

The county with the highest average refund nationwide is Teton County in Wyoming, with 8,350 taxpayers receiving an average of $5,380 in refunds. The county with the highest average owed in the nation is Martin County in Texas, with 490 people owing an average of $29,100 each in taxes.
Nationwide, more than 112.7 million taxpayers receive refunds averaging $2,925. More than 32.1 million Americans owe taxes averaging $5,621.
