A Tate County resident has self-published a children’s book in hopes of encouraging the love of reading.
Hugh Jackson, a native of McComb, has turned his strong affection for his dogs into a colorful children’s book entitled “Dog Mania”.
The book, dedicated to Jackson’s two beloved dogs, Brutus and B.J., is filled with all color photos and rhyming words. Jackson used both the color photos and the easy-to-read words to tell the tale of the dog’s adventures in the pond and in country.
Jackson used this method of writing and complementary photos in order to inspire young readers and enhance their desire to read more books. Jackson said he self-published the book for several reasons.
“Sometimes the only way for authors to get started is to self-publish,” said Jackson.
Additionally, Jackson wanted to include color photos on every page of the book. He said it was difficult to find a publishing company to agree with his specifications.
Jackson currently lives in Coldwater with his wife, Peggy. The couple has one daughter, Julie, and four grandchildren.
