After farming in Tate County for over 26 years, Robert Carpenter, 49, would be honored to serve Tate County as District 4 Supervisor. A lifelong resident of Tate County, Carpenter is familiar with the duties of supervisor. His grandfather, Cecil Howell, was a supervisor for many years. “He loved his job, he loved Tate County, and he loved the people of Tate County,” said Carpenter. “I think it was his influence that really helped me make my decision.” Carpenter is a graduate of Magnolia Heights School and Northwest Mississippi Community College. He owns and operates his own farm where he raises cattle and has row crops. He is also on the Board of Directors of Tate County Farm Bureau. “I absolutely care about this community, and I am blessed to have grown up here and to have raised my family here. I want Tate County to be the very best place that it can be for all our citizens and our children,” said Carpenter. Tate County citizens are Carpenter’s number one concern. “The position of supervisor is a big responsibility. There are always two sides to everything. You have to be fair and take all the people affected by the laws in consideration as well as Tate County as a whole,” he said. Carpenter aims to listen to the voices of the residents of Tate County. “Well since I would be elected by the people of District Four, I’d like to carry out their wishes.” Carpenter does have plans for improvement. “I want to work with the other supervisors and other state law makers for the improvement of our local schools, law enforcement, roads and bridges and the economic growth of Tate County,” he said. Carpenter is married to Dawn Sowell Carpenter, of Senatobia. They have three daughters: Hailey Carpenter, 23, RN; Bailey Carpenter, 19, Northwest Mississippi Community College; and Hadley Carpenter, 7, Wyatte Baptist Learning Center. Carpenter said his family fully supports his decision to run for election. “Without their full support, I would not have made the decision to run for supervisor,” said Carpenter. Carpenter said that he looks forward to hearing from Tate County residents. “I will strive to be a dedicated, fair, and honest public servant to all the citizens of Tate County District Four,” he said.
