The Senatobia Board of Aldermen held a regular meeting at Senatobia City Hall Tuesday, March 5.
Newly elected Alderman Demetrius Garrett was elected as the Mayor Pro Tempore with all aldermen voting “yea”. Garrett was then given the opportunity to address the public about his recent trip to Jackson for the Council of Government meeting.
“It was really encouraging,” said Garrett. “One of the biggest things I took from it is the more we come together, the more we get.”
As another order of business, the Board voted to approve a sponsorship for the Tate County Fair in the amount of $2,500.
The following items were approved on the consent agenda:
• Approve Minutes from the Regular Mayor and Board of Aldermen meeting on February 20, 2024
• Approve Docket of Claims numbers: 32857 – 33027 for a total of $4,251,723.04
• Authorize Police Sergeant Maze, Officer Johnson and Officer Gipson to attend the MASRO Conference in Biloxi, MS on July 7-12, 2024, also authorize to pay registration and travel expenses
• Authorize Chief Foresman and FLSE/PIO Chantay Rhone to attend the Firefighters and Fire Chiefs Summer Conference in Natchez, MS on May 28-June 2, 2024, also authorize to pay registration and travel expenses
• Authorize Officer Perrette to attend the Glock Armorer School at the Desoto County Sheriff's Office on August 20, 2024, also authorize to pay registration
• Authorize Officer Steelandt to attend FBI Firearms Instructor School at MLEOTA in Pearl, MS, on March 24-29, 2024, also authorize to pay travel expenses
• Authorize Police Lt. Trentham to attend the FBI LEEDA Class in Bartlett, TN on March 18-22, 2024, also authorize to pay registration
• Authorize Police Chief Chandler, Officer Crain, Officer Dickson, Officer Duncan, Officer Hooper, and Officer Stinson to attend TVI class at the Columbia Law Enforcement Training Academy in Columbia, MS, on March 22, 2024, also authorize to pay registration
• Authorize to appoint Mary Elinor Goodwin to the Senatobia Historic Preservation Commission with a term ending January 1, 2028
• Authorize to appoint Daniel Etherton to the Senatobia Historic Preservation Commission with a term ending January 1, 2027
• Authorize to move Fireman Travis McDonald from Driver/Sergeant to Captain with an increase in pay
• Authorize to move Fireman Ellis Brown to FFI status with an increase in pay
• Authorize to move Fireman Butch Sowell from FF2 to FF3 status with an increase in pay
• Authorize to move Fireman Evan Gilder from FF2 to FF3 with an increase in pay
• Authorize to accept the resignation from Brandon Hishaw in the Public Works Water Department employee, effective February 26, 2024
• Authorize to accept the resignation from Police Officer Michael Mandujano
• Authorize to hire Nickisis Sipp as a part-time Parks Department Concession Stand worker
• Authorize to hire Ken Guthridge as a seasonal Parks Department Field Worker
• Authorize to accept the lowest and best quote for lift station repair from Fluid Process & Pumps, LLC in the amount of $12,648.00
• Authorize to accept the lowest and best interest rate quote of 5.75% from Guaranty Bank for the financing of 2, 2024 Dodge Ram trucks for the Public Works Department
• Authorize to accept the lowest and best bid from Strayhorn Trucking & Construction, LLC in the amount of $14,500 to replace the culvert on Merry Hill Ranch Rd
• Authorize Mayor Graves and an Alderman to sign the Local Government Notification form from Leasa Rose Estates acknowledging they are applying for MS Home Corporation funds to rehab and modernize Leasa Rose Estates
The Board moved to Executive Session to discuss Fire Department personnel and economic updates.
