If you happen to be a country music fan, you just might recognize the name, Wayne Carson. He was a songwriter and guitarist who wrote many songs that were sung by famous artists such as Elvis Presley, Brenda Lee, and Willie Nelson.
Although from Springfield, Missouri, he did a lot of work at a recording studio in Memphis, and on one occasion, had stayed longer than expected. So, when he called his wife to explain his delay, she understandably was angry with him, and he said, “Well, I know I’ve been gone a lot, but I’ve been thinking about you all the time.”
His reply to her created a spark of lyrical genius and would eventually become a top 40 hit on the music charts. Wayne Carson's song, “Always on My Mind” was performed by Willie Nelson, and would win the Grammy Award for Song of the Year and Best Country Song in 1983.
That one simple phrase meant more than just “I was thinking about you,” it meant, “I love you so much that when we are not together, I just can’t get you off of my mind until we are back together again.”
I don’t suppose Mrs. Carson was able to stay mad for very long, in fact, I would bet that she was quite flattered at such a loving statement.
Friend, can I tell you today that Wayne Carson was not the first to relay that declaration to someone he loved, Jesus was!
In Romans 8:27 The Apostle Paul tells us that "…He that searches the heart knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because he makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God."
Jesus knows our heart, our desires, and our needs, and He knows the will of God, so He is continually praying to God on our behalf. When we feel like we can't pray, when we feel like there is no hope, when we feel like we are alone and don’t know what to do, we can rest in the knowledge that Jesus has us on his mind at all times, and is pleading our case before the Father.
His word is a steadfast reminder that YOU are always on His mind.
