Last week’s double-shot of winter storms caused more delays to the basketball playoffs in the MHSAA and MAIS.
For the Magnolia Heights boys’ program, the Chiefs will now have to wait until to suit up in the MAIS Class AAAA Tournament at Hillcrest Christian School in Jackson. The tournament was pushed back to Wednesday, February 24, as the Chiefs will take on third-seeded tourney host Hillcrest Christian in the opening round.
Closer to home, both Senatobia and Independence are scheduled to host first round playoff games this week. Region 2-3A champions Independence will host fourth-seeded Humphreys County in the first round of the Class 3A girls’ playoffs on Monday, February 22 at 6 P.M. This will be the third time in the last four seasons that the IHS Lady Kats have hosted a first round playoff game.
Meanwhile, the top-seeded Senatobia boys’ are slated to host fourth-seeded Amanda Elzy on Tuesday, February 23. The Warriors are riding high following a Region 2-3A tournament sweep that included wins against Independence, Holly Springs and Byhalia.
For the defending Class 3A champion Senatobia Lady Warriors, the No. 2 seed SHS will host Winona on Monday, February 22 at 6 P.M. The two teams met previously during the regular season, with the Lady Warriors earning a whopping 65-13 win against the Lady Tigers on January 26.
