Despite a waterlogged field, the Independence High School Wildcats found traction on the turf Friday night to shut out the Strayhorn Mustangs 41-0 in a homecoming victory. The Wildcat’s Lundon Sandridge set the pace for the night, when he ran back the first touchdown of the game on the second snap with eleven minutes on the clock in the first quarter. The Mustangs night was filled with miscommunications and failure to capitalize on possessions. Between overthrown snaps and turnovers, the Mustangs were simply outplayed by the hungry Wildcats. The non-conference game brought Independence its first win of the season for a record of 1-2. After Friday’s loss, Strayhorn has an overall record of 1-3 on the season. In this week’s action the Mustangs will host the Potts Camp Cardinals in a conference game for homecoming. The Cardinals are 2-1 overall on the 2020 season. Pregame ceremonies begin at 6:30 p.m. with the presentation of the court and the crowning of the 2020 Strayhorn Homecoming Queen. Game time set for 7 p.m. Independence will be at home this Friday, Oct. 2, in a conference game to face the Holley Springs Hawks. The Hawks have a record of 1-3 overall on the season.
