Most people assume God’s will for their life is very specific & mysterious. I’ve got some really good news for you today. God’s will is not like that. It’s not a bullseye to strike, a puzzle left to be decoded, or a maze to escape. God’s will for you is straightforward and not complicated.
So, what is God’s Will for my life? Let’s see what God’s Word says.
Colossians 3:16-17 NLT [16] Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. [17] And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.
The most striking word in these verses is “whatever” or “whatever you do.” Whatever is where we find God’s will, as it represents endless possibilities. God’s calling on your life doesn’t limit you; it frees you.
Whatever you find yourself doing, do it for Jesus. That’s when you find yourself in God’s will. It’s not as complicated as we sometimes make it out to be. God is not a God of confusion. He is a God of clarity, and the more we spend time with Him through His Word and in Worship, it changes us to be who He created us to be.
To know God’s will, we need to define it. Let’s break down the will of God into three parts.
ONE | THE WORKS OF GOD
The works of God are the things that God will do regardless of our intervention. So, when it comes to His works, they will happen. He is God, after all.
TWO | THE WAYS OF GOD
The ways of God are the guidelines that God placed on your life. You were designed to live by the ways of God. Following God’s lead is so important in this.
When God tells you to do something, you need to listen. Why?
God didn’t put these rules in the Bible to control you. He put them there to protect you. Because that puts you in the ways of God, the ways of God are the best place to be.
When you live a life free of greed, you are content. When you live a life of love, you help change people’s lives. When you avoid addiction, you are protecting your health and others. When you avoid sexual immorality, you are protecting your relationships.
God’s way is the best because it’s the safest. Your most important goal is not figuring out God’s exact will. It’s walking in God’s ways.

The ways of God light the path toward the will of God. It’s amazing to understand that God has some amazing things for our lives when we pursue after Him through His Word.
THREE | THE SPECIFIC WILL OF GOD.
He loves you and wants the best for your life, so let God lead you to His specific will for you.
When people talk about God’s will, it’s usually “what, who, and where.” However, God is far more concerned with the “how and why.”
How will you find the right person to marry? By walking in obedience to God, who will show you the right person. How will you find the right job? By pursuing the gifts and passions, God has put inside you. What should you do with your Friday night? Don’t worry too much about the details; focus on how God asked you to live.
God’s ways are the path to God’s will. Walk in His ways and watch His will unfold before your eyes. The best is yet to come when we do.
