Friday evening’s soggy weather did little, if anything, to dampen Senatobia’s offense.
Traveling to Independence for their annual rivalry matchup with the Wildcats, the Warriors went all gas and no brakes in the first half and never looked back, earning a 51-0 shutout win.
Senatobia scored four touchdowns in the first half, starting with a short touchdown run from quarterback Jay Irby early in the first quarter. Irby would help the Warriors strike again later in the half, hurling a 36-yard pass to Jay Bonner between multiple Independence defenders.
Leading 14-0 with three minutes left in the second quarter, it was Irby once again reaching the end zone for the Warriors, scoring from two yards out. After the Wildcats failed to erase the shutout before halftime, Senatobia got one more crack at the end zone, as Julien Tabor broke free on a 32-yard touchdown, bringing the halftime lead to 28-0.
Senatobia’s offense picked up right where it left off to open the third quarter, as Tabor scored from 10 yards out for his second touchdown of the evening, stretching the Warriors’ advantage to 36-0.
Senatobia would score two more times in the second half, once on a 28-yard touchdown strike from Irby to O’Ryan Bobo and a late touchdown from sophomore Bobby Doyle, closing out the blowout victory.
With the win, the Warriors improved to 2-1 on the season and have now outscored their opponents 93-7 over the past two weeks. Meanwhile, Independence fell to 2-1 overall.
Next up for Senatobia is a non-region contest against St. Pius X on Friday, September 20. Based out of Festus, Mo., the Lancers are 1-2 and coming off a 22-14 victory against Knob Noster (Mo.).
Meanwhile, Independence will look to get back into the win column with a road matchup at Biggersville on Friday, Sept. 20. The Lions (1-2) are coming off a 34-28 win against West Lowndes last Friday evening.
Both are games are scheduled for the standard 7 P.M. kickoff time.
