A shooting on Mays Road where two people were injured remains under investigation by the Tate County Sheriff’s Office.
Captain Lisa Sanders said deputies were dispatched to the 500 block of Mays Road on Monday, Sept. 19, at approximately 4:32 p.m., after E-911 received a report of shots fired in the area.
A male and female subject with gunshot wounds were discovered at the scene and transported by Pafford EMS to a local hospital for treatment, according to Sanders. She said the injuries were not life threatening and a search for suspects in the shootings is ongoing.
Sanders said a brief review of the case led to the arrest of a resident of the home where the shooting took place on unrelated charges in connection with the incident. She identified the suspect as Eric Bradford Mays, 32, of Coldwater, who was charged with multiple felonies including possession of a stolen firearm, felon in possession of a firearm and possession of controlled substance with intent to sell.
Mays was taken into custody Tuesday, Sept. 20, and detained at the Tate County Jail under a $75,000 bond.
Documents from Tate County Circuit Court show Mays was ordered to serve two years in Mississippi Department of Corrections and five years post-release supervision in 2018 after pleading guilty to one count of possession of marijuana – more than 30 grams but less than a kilogram – with intent to sell while in possession of a firearm. He was indicted by the Tate County Grand Jury in July 2017.
The shooting remains under investigation and anyone with information is urged to call the Tate County Sheriff’s Office at 662-562-4434.
