“Don’t worry, about a thing ‘Cause every little thing, gonna be all right…” this song is by Bob Marley and it’s called “Three Little Birds”. We all want to hear this message so badly during this time when it seems that everything is up in the air. “Three little birds pitched by my doorstep - sweet songs - of melodies pure and true - sayin’, “This is my message to you, whoo-hoo.” As I look outside my doorstep this morning lots of little Goldfinches are enjoying the sunflower seeds that have been provided. They are so happy and care free and don’t seem to worry about a thing.
According to Ian McCann in an article on udiscovermusic.com “‘Three Little Birds’, this simple, joyful song that has been a hit several times over, was a gift from nature, its writing prompted by the birds that fluttered by the window at 56 Hope Road, Bob’s Tuff Gong HQ and home during the second half of the 70’s.”
One of my Christmas gifts this year was a ukulele. My daughters and son-in-laws bought each of their children an instrument for Christmas. All of the girls received ukuleles and my grandson a set of drums. So that Dennis could be part of the music to be created from this talented group, he was given a harmonica.
I came from a very musical family and I have always wanted my own family to be musical, too. I am excited that we are about to begin our own musical group of little ones. Last night my oldest grand-daughter, Becca, sent me a recording of her playing “You Are My Sunshine” on her new ukulele. It made me want to get busy so that I’m not the one holding the group back.
So this morning I searched to find a song that I could play on my ukulele that was simple, but since I am always interested in finding something that birds are at the “center point”, I typed in “ukulele birds”. The first song that came up was “Birds” by Thomas Sanders on ukutabs.com. I’m not familiar with this song, but I laughed as I read the words of the chorus – “I just want to watch the birds go by from my handy foldable blue canvas throne. I wanna watch them fly and fly and see them soar up into the unknown. But, I’d feel just like a nerd, watching birds, watching me here all alone.” I was lead on to read more of the lyrics and I found them to be pretty profound. He didn’t want to be a nerd, and he said he was sorry if he was “ornithologically prone.”
It sounded pretty cool, so I decided to investigate a Youtube video of Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds.” I had heard this song before, but today it resonated with me. This song was combined with a cartoon that had a Wolf wanting to eat a little Piggie. I don’t know about you, but that’s what I feel like CoVid is - a big, bad Wolf that wants to eat me. But the three little birds tell him “Don’t worry, about a thing ‘Cause every little thing, gonna be all right.”
You may be like me and waiver with every tickle in your throat and every sneeze that comes out. This pandemic can put fear into us, but this is when our faith must help us hold firm to God’s Word. I have an Andrew Murray Devotional that I read each morning and years ago I wrote a translation of Philippians 4:16 that reads, “Don’t be “full of care” about anything…let your requests be known to God.”
As I continue to “Look at the birds of the air…” (Matthew 6:26) Jesus’ Words comfort and help me to not worry about anything and that’s what He wants for all of us – not to worry about anything, but let Him take care of us all. Thomas Sanders’ song says, “Each little species in its little way can teach me what awaits you if you can get away…” Make some time today to “Look at the birds of the air…”
