The entire Coldwater school campus was placed on lockdown for several hours after three students were discovered with guns, according to authorities.
Coldwater Police Chief Rickey Dandridge said three individuals – one adult and two juveniles – were taken into custody Thursday, Dec. 15, and charged with possession of a weapon in connection with the incident.
Dandridge identified the adult suspect as Tyree Stevenson, 18, of Coldwater, who was booked at the Tate County Jail. Two 17-year-olds, whose names were not released because they are minors, were transported to the Desoto County Juvenile Detention Center.
Dandridge said officers were dispatched to the Coldwater campus at approximately 9 a.m., after receiving a call from school officials regarding students who smelled of marijuana. Two loaded handguns – a .380 and a Glock – were found in fanny packs during a search of the students along with an extended clip that had 14 rounds in it, according to Dandridge.
Law enforcement personnel from the Tate County Sheriff’s Office and DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department assisted with securing the campus during the lockdown which was lifted around 2 p.m.
Dandridge said the incident remains under investigation by the Coldwater Police Department
