In a season filled with dominance, Senatobia finally met its match last weekend.
After receiving a first round bye in the playoffs and sweeping Hatley earlier in the week, the Lady Warriors were paired with a red hot Booneville team and the Lady Blue Devils went to work, defeating SHS 8-5 and 9-1.
Senatobia fell behind early in Game 1 at Booneville on Friday, as the Lady Blue Devils scored two in the second and one in the third for a 3-0 advantage. The Lady Warriors allowed a pair of additional runs in the bottom of the fifth and remained scoreless until the top of the sixth inning, when SHS got on the board with two runs.
Despite the sixth-inning rally, Booneville responded with three more runs in the home half of the sixth, pushing its lead to 8-2. SHS would once again attempt a rally in the seventh, but came up short with just three runs scored.
Senatobia finished with seven hits on the day, but the Lady Warriors were no match for the 14-strikeout effort from Hallie Burns. McKaylee Polk led SHS with three hits and two RBIs, while Macy Stevens also came away with a pair of hits.
Polk also tossed 5.1 innings for Senatobia with a strikeout, while Kara Johnson finished off the final 0.2 innings.
Facing elimination, Senatobia hosted Booneville less than 24 hours in what would become the deciding Game 2. Unfortunately, the mojo was once again not on the Lady Warriors’ side, as Booneville scored at least one run in every inning except the sixth to end the season for SHS.
Booneville scratched across a single run in each of the first three innings, before a two-run frame in the fourth made it a 5-0 advantage. The Lady Blue Devils also added a run in the fifth, before a three-run frame in the seventh all but sealed things.
Trailing 9-0 with three outs left, Senatobia managed to get a run across in the bottom of the seventh, but Booneville left unfazed with the 9-1 win.
Senatobia’s kryptonite once again proved to be Burns, who delivered 10 strikeouts in a complete game effort for the Lady Blue Devils. Burns also did damage at the plate, earning three RBIs on four hits.
Booneville outhit Senatobia 13-3 on the afternoon and the Lady Warriors committed four errors in the loss. For Senatobia, Polk and Anna Nickens combined for three strikeouts across seven innings.
With the series loss, Senatobia ends the season at 21-6-2 overall, earning the most victories in a single season since posting a 24-8 overall record in 2015.
