A Senatobia teenager has been charged as an adult in connection with a shooting that sent another juvenile to the hospital.
The suspect, identified by Senatobia Police Chief Richard Chandler as William Tyler Scott, 16, of Senatobia, was arrested Wednesday, April 14, and charged with drive-by shooting. He was processed at the Tate County Jail and held under a $250,000 bond.
Detective Brannon Rushing said the incident took place Sunday, April 11, near the Gospel Temple Church of God in the 600 block of East Gilmore Street in Senatobia.
Police officers were dispatched to the intersection of East Gilmore and Scottsdale at approximately 8 p.m., after receiving a report of shots fired in the area. Rushing said officers continued to patrol the neighborhood for nearly an hour after discovering nothing out of the ordinary.
Just after 9 p.m., the Southaven Police Department contacted local dispatch regarding a 16-year old male with a gunshot wound to his hand who had been recently transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto. Rushing said Senatobia detectives questioned the victim at the hospital before launching an investigation.
Detectives located the scene where the shooting took place later that evening and discovered bullet holes in a residence near the Gospel Temple Church of God, according to Rushing. He said detectives also obtained video surveillance footage that showed a vehicle with at least two suspects inside.
“An investigation of the events and after speaking with witnesses and persons involved in the incident led to enough probable cause to charge the suspect,” Chandler said. “We expect more charges to be filed as our investigation continues.”
Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to call Detective Riley Cole at (662) 562-5643.
