The plan to improve body cameras for deputies at the Tate County Sheriff’s Office has taken a major step forward.
At its monthly meeting Monday, April 1, the Board of Supervisors approved Sheriff Luke Shepherd’s request to accept the lowest and best bid and enter a six-year deal with Axon Enterprises for 16 body cameras at a rate of approximately $12,000 per year.
“This is a much-needed update and upgrade to the ones we currently have since our previous contract is expiring,” Shepherd explained. “We have several cameras that aren’t functioning properly.”
In her monthly report to Supervisors, Tate County Justice Court Clerk Stacey Suddoth praised Sheriff Shepherd and his staff for assisting in cutting down on a backlog of unserved warrants in the county.
