When students in the Tate County School District return for classes after the New Year, they can expect a limit to the number of meals they can charge.
Superintendent Alee’ Dixon announced Tuesday, Dec. 12, at the monthly meeting of the Board of Trustees the district will reimplement its meal charge policy.
“Meals were free during the COVID pandemic, and we have not really followed the policy for students who charge meals outlined in our student handbook since,” Dixon explained.
Beginning January 3, the first day of classes for the 2024 spring semester, students who reach a negative balance of $15 will receive five alternate meals charged at their regular rate. Once the student reaches a negative balance of $28.75 or higher, he/she will not be allowed to charge any additional meals.
If you have not completed a meal application for the current school year, visit www.myschoolapps.com or request a paper application from your child's school. Current cafeteria prices in the Tate County School District include:
Breakfast
• Full price for students – $1.00
• Reduced price for students – $0.30
• Adults (TCSD employees) – $1.85 Lunch
• Full price for students – $2.75
• Reduced price for students – $0.40
• Adults (TCSD employees) – $3.60
Dixon said TCSD currently has an outstanding balance of $3,400 in unpaid meal charges the district cannot reimburse with state funding, according to law.
The TCSD handbook strongly encourages parents/guardians to make meal payments in advance. Students and adults are allowed to pay in advance, eliminating the problem of forgotten meal money.
