Dear Editor,
To say 2020 was a challenge for the Tate County School System is an understatement. However, with the guidance of Alee Dixon, Superintendent, and the staff, and sacrifices of the teachers we made it through. It was tough complying with State and Federal guidelines and the extra cost of supplies due to Covid.
Most of the extra cost for supplies was covered by grants, but in some cases we had to front the money to take advantage of available supplies at that time and wait for the grant money to arrive. In spite of extra expenses, the staff managed to keep us within budget.
At the end of 2019, 2 mils were returned to the Tate County Board of Supervisors and in 2020, 4 mils were returned. Out of our savings, we managed to fund without borrowing, for some much needed and long overdue items such as a new roof for East Tate and needed maintenance at other schools.
My compliments to the Superintendent, staff, teachers and the support staff. Let’s pray that 2021 is not as challenging as 2020. God bless and stay safe.
