The quick word of the Bible

In the King James Version of the New Testament, the word "quick" can be found four times. At every occasion, the word means "living." Our modern usage of the word "quick" is different, yet it is attached to "living/alive" in this way: Something that is full of life has great energy, which leads to its ability to be quick, rapid, or fast.

Near to the heart of God

Cleland Boyd McAfee penned the song "Near to the Heart of God" in 1903. Resources say two of his infant nieces died from diphtheria, which event motivated the writing of this hymn. Two places come to mind when I think of being near to the heart of God: (1) Heaven; (2) The church.

What is the ekklesia of Christ?

The word ekklesia is first found in the New Testament first in Matthew 16:18. It is most often translated as "church," "assembly," or "congregation." It is used to refer to variety of assemblies (even Israel in the wilderness, cf. Acts 7:38); however, when it is referring to the church that Jesus built, it becomes much more specific.
