The burn ban originally issued by Tate County officials in October has expired.
Jim Huestis, Tate County Emergency Management Director/Fire Coordinator, said recent rains were enough to quell dry conditions and end the ban, which officially expired Monday, Nov. 20.
Huestis still recommends using caution when burning outdoors.
Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves lifted a partial statewide burn ban in mid-November following consultation with the Mississippi Forestry Commission and Mississippi Emergency Management Agency.
The statewide ban was put in place due to extreme drought conditions. From Aug. 1 through Nov. 14, MFC wildland firefighters responded to 1,506 calls which burned approximately 21,919 acres. The Governor's office said if the ban was not in place, those numbers would have been higher.
