Tate County residents whose property was affected by Memorial Day weekend storms have a deadline to get tree limbs and other debris to the road for pickup.
Supercell thunderstorms produced straight-line winds up to 85 miles per hour Friday, May 24, in parts of Tate County which led to downed trees and scattered power outages. Some residences were without electricity for three days, according to Entergy.
Tate County Road Manager Benton Ash told Supervisors at their monthly meeting Monday, June 3, his department is currently backtracking over the same areas picking up debris affected by storms.
“We pick up a pile in front of a residence and there is another pile at the same residence the next day,” Ash said. “A deadline needs to be established so we can get it all once to save time and money.”
Supervisors agreed to set Sunday, June 30, as the last day for taking debris associated with May storms to the road for collection specifically in unincorporated areas such as Back Acres Country Club, Springfield-O.B. McClinton Roads, Jones Road, Pamela Drive, Norris Cove and Oakley Road.
Ash said it would take approximately a week to collect all the limbs and trees from the aforementioned areas. Ash also informed Supervisors of necessary upgrades on Parks Road in eastern Tate County and as part of the four-year improvement plan as well as a joint venture with Marshall County to enhance a two-mile section of Tate-Marshall Road. Ash said he is waiting on a price estimate from engineers before entering an agreement with Marshall County to make the repairs.
In her monthly report to Supervisors, Tate County Justice Court Clerk Stacey Suddoth said her office collected $60,751 in May, a slightly lower number than previous two months but a new record for the highest total ever in the month of May. Suddoth said the Tate County Sheriff’s Office served 41 warrants in April and 28 in May.
Supervisors approved a budget amendment to advertise county resources for a $2,500 donation to the Tate County Fair board.
