Mississippi has some of the worst roads in the United States, according to a study by a personal injury law firm in Georgia.
The firm analyzed data from all 50 states, evaluating them based on five crucial factors: road fatalities, rural road conditions, urban road conditions, highway spending per mile, and highway spending per capita to determine which states have the best, and worst, roads in America.
Results show Mississippi ranks third on the list with an overall score of 53.8. Only New Mexico (50) and Louisiana (51.4) ranked lower in the study. While the Magnolia State is known for its rich history and musical heritage, its roads present ongoing challenges for residents and those passing through.
Mississippi's higher-than-average fatality rate of 1.76% raises concerns about road safety, emphasizing the need for improvements to protect drivers. The study also showed 9.17% of the state’s rural roadways require attention and 16.32% of urban roads are in poor condition.
