Mississippi ranks third in the United States with smokers determined to do away with the unhealthy habit in 2025.
A new study by a vape manufacturer utilized the most recent smoking data from the American Lung Association. It examined the percentage of adult cigarette smokers who abstained from smoking for at least one day or more in 2022, revealing the states most and least dedicated to quit.
Mississippi residents have demonstrated a strong commitment to smoking cessation with 61.2% of adult smokers attempting to stop, an impressive 6.8% higher than the national average.
Connecticut leads the nation in smoker attempting to quit followed by Alabama, Mississippi, New Jersey and Delaware.
On the other end of the scale, the study also identified the states with the lowest percentage of adult smokers attempting to quit and Kentucky ranked at the top. Maine was second on the list, while West Virginia, Arkansas and Oregon rounded out the top five.
