The inaugural Community Outreach/Harvest Festival drew numerous and diverse people to the grounds of the Springfield MB Church on Sunday, Sept. 24, for fun and fellowship.
Guests included Tate County Sheriff Candidate Luke Shepherd and his family. Parekh Medical Clinic, Dr. Kamlesh Parekh did an awesome presentation, and the clinic donated clothes for the Church’s Clothes Closet.
Walmart donated school supplies through Pennington Voice Ministries, which also donated clothes and food.
We used this Harvest Festival to give thanks for what we have and to re-establish (post-pandemic) the Church’s Clothes Closet and Food Pantry. We have an ambitious but humble plan to help others in the community and throughout the county, state, and world where a need exists and when disasters come upon us.
The festival occurred on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and everything was free. It included an assortment of foods prepared by the “Church Ladies” (with men on the grills).
A Water slide and two bounce houses were on the grounds for the children. Snow cones/cups were also available for the children and adults acting like children.
We had face painting by Ms. Barbara Cage and fire safety demonstrations by the Looxahoma Fire Department. We thank Ms. Toya Turner, MSN RN (Nursing Instructor, NWCC), and her students, who provided blood pressure and Diabetes checks.
The event was successful because it presented an opportunity for community fellowship without regard to race, culture, or politics. We are already planning for next year. Let us celebrate the fact that we are all one in Christ Jesus.
