Although some teams were able to pick up first round victories in the MHSAA Class I Playoffs, the second round wasn’t as kind to Strayhorn and Independence.
Following a tight 1-0 home win against Philadelphia last Monday, the Independence Lady Wildcats saw its season draw to a close with a shutout loss to St. Andrew’s Episcopal School, a private school that competes in the MHSAA. Independence ended the season with a 4-9 overall record.
Meanwhile, region champion Strayhorn saw its seven-match winning streak snapped with a 4-1 loss to Booneville. The defeat ended the Lady Mustangs’ season at 9-6 overall.
Strayhorn’s boys’ team also saw its season come to a close in the second round, after a 7-0 loss to St. Andrew’s Episcopal. The Mustangs end the 2022-23 campaign with an 8-6-1 record on the season.
