Longtime educator and Tate County resident Bernice Jackson is the recipient of the 2025 Red Rose Award.
Members of the local Alpha Delta Chapter of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, a society of women educators, presented Jackson with the honor Wednesday, Jan. 7 during a meeting of the Senatobia Municipal School Board of Trustees.
The Red Rose Award is given biannually to a woman educator who has made a significant contribution to the field of education. The Alpha Delta Chapter consists of educators from Tate, Marshall, DeSoto and Marshall Counties.
“Ms. Jackson is an accomplished leader who has devoted her life to education,” said Alpha Delta Chapter member Janet Conley. “She exemplifies every quality and meets every criterion associated with this award.”
With more than 40 years of dedicated service in public education, Jackson built a distinguished career marked by leadership, advocacy and an unwavering commitment to students and families.
Jackson joined the Senatobia Municipal School District in 1995. She served as assistant superintendent for personnel and pupil services and oversaw a wide range of critical district operations including transportation, student services, federal program compliance, employee recruitment, discipline, attendance and support services for at-risk and English language learner populations.
Jackson also chaired the district discipline committee and coordinated multiple federal and state programs to directly strengthen school safety, student engagement and equitable access.
She worked tirelessly to help propel children in academic growth by developing and establishing the SMSD Parent Center – a classroom for parents where they can learn about and engage in school curriculum, community resources, instructional assistance and ways to support a child’s at-home learning process.
