In the past week, Senatobia continued to resemble the closest thing to a buzzsaw in Class I, Region 2 soccer.
Closing out region competition with three matches against Strayhorn, Independence and Byhalia, the Warriors and Lady Warriors demolished the competition, collectively outscoring all three opponents 18-1 on the girls’ side and 22-0 in boys’ action.
The dominance began last Tuesday evening in a doubleheader against Strayhorn. After going 26 minutes without a goal, Mackenzie Mullen finally got the Lady Warriors on the board after taking in a bounce back off the post. Two minutes later, McKenzie Pegues rattled in a goal in front of the net, followed by booming kick from midfield that resulted in a goal for Marie Brown, pushing Senatobia’s halftime lead to 3-0.
Carly Dunigan kept the momentum going for the Lady Warriors in the 45th minute, before scoring another goal in the 53rd minute. Leading 6-0, Dunigan delivered the clincher for the Lady Warriors, as her third goal ended the match at a 7-0 victory against the Lady Mustangs.
Senatobia also wasted no time ending things early in the boys’ matchup, as Luke Melton scored his first goal just three minutes in. Less than a minute later, J.C. Dunlop added another Warrior goal to make it a quick 2-0 advantage.
After Melton struck again in the fifth minute of the match, senior Koby Rhone delivered back-to-back goals and made it a 5-0 lead for Senatobia in the 18th minute of the match. Rhone would later earn a hat trick with his third goal in the 35th minute, along with additional goals from Dunlop and Logan Orman, as the Warriors defeated the Mustangs 8-0 in the first half.
Later in the week, Senatobia swept Independence last Thursday evening by a pair of 4-0 and 7-0 finals. Last Saturday, the Lady Warriors defeated Byhalia 7-1, while the Warrior boys’ blanked Byhalia 7-0.
