Shirly Joe Burford 1932 ~ 2022, known as Papa Joe, age 90 of Barr, MS passed away on the evening of December 9, 2022. Joe was born March 9, 1932 in Tate County, MS to Bernard K and Lorraine West Burford. Joe is survived by his sister Ella Darnell, his son Randal Lee Burford (Gail), daughter-in-law Debbie Burford, daughter-in-law Sheila Burford Dahlgren, granddaughter Cassie Magill, four grandsons: Benjamin Burford (Nancy), Jeremy Burford (Tiffany), Johnathon Burford, Steven Burford; nine great-grandchildren: Christian Burford, Damion Splawn, Majesta Dillard, Jackson Burford, Carter Burford, Isabella Burford, Kloey Burford, Jaden Burford, Mikayla Burford, Tyler Moss; and one great-great grandson Malikiah. He is preceded in death by his mother & father, wife Clara Burford, brothers and sisters, three sons: Joe Lynn Burford, Steve Allen Burford, & Bernard Franklin Burford, & two grandsons: Joe Lynn Burford, Jr & Bernard Franklin Burford, Jr. He graduated in 1950 from Thyatira School. Joe was a long-time member of Thyatira Church of Christ. He was married to Clara for 70 years. He retired from Graeber Bros after a long career delivering gas. He and Clara raised four boys. Joe was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend to many. Services were held Monday, December 12, 2022 at Thyatira Church of Christ. Burial followed in Thyatira Cemetery. Pate-Jones Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.
