Shirley Holt Brassfield
Shirley Holt Brassfield, age 87, of Trade, Tennessee passed away peacefully on September 7th at Johnson City Medical Center. She was born on July 4, 1937, in Memphis, Tennessee to the late Howard Holt and Geraldine Frantz. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gale “Red” Brassfield and grandson, Matthew Brassfield. She is survived by her son, Terry Brassfield (Virginia); two daughters, Donna Gates (Howard), and Gaye Brassfield all of Independence, Mississippi; sisters Nancy Yeary (Wes) of Jacksonville, Florida; Judy Day (Richard) of Roanoke, Virginia; Connie Wheatley (Bob) of Jacksonville, Florida; and brothers Greg Holt (Lois) and Chris Holt all of Jacksonville, Florida; grandsons Dustin Donald (Allison), John Brassfield and Sean Brassfield (Ashley); great-grandson, Landon Brassfield; great-granddaughters Macie Busby, Baylee and Kaylee Donald, Ally, Leah, Luna and Annaleigh Brassfield; many nieces, nephews, close friends and caregivers Rhea and Ken Purl of Trade, Tennessee. Shirley lived in Independence, Mississippi for many years and was known as the “Green Bean Queen” for her prolific hobby of harvesting, canning and gifting green beans to family and friends. She was active in various Baptist churches in Tate County. At Shirley’s wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. She asks that remembrances be through donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
