Do not allow the people troubling your mind and distorting the gospel to disrupt your spirit. "Their destiny is destruction, their god is their belly, and their glory is in their shame. Their minds are set on worldly things" (Philippians 3:19, ISV). We need to keep the faith and not follow reckless and arrogant people. Remember, the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God. Do not follow them; they are traveling a road that, sooner than later, will make them an enemy of the Lord. Paul, the author of Philippians, said it before, and I say again that many live as enemies of Christ.
They seek gain for themselves, even at the expense of shaming themselves, their family, their community, and the Lord. People professing to be a child of God and using their duly elected position to purchase televisions and other personal equipment for their private residence disgraces themselves and their families. Prophet Habakkuk said: "You in turn will be covered with shame instead of honor. You yourself will drink and stagger. The LORD will make you drink your own cup of punishment, and your honor will be turned to disgrace" (Habakkuk 2:16, GNT). The love of money and power and even a little greed will cause entire households to crumble. When these elements mix, it can bring down an entire country.
Contrary to widespread belief, the end does not justify the means; this is a human philosophy. We should have learned this lesson from David, who was willing to kill for a woman. He was king with power and money and could have any woman, but he wanted Bethsheba. Getting what you want does not justify adultery, conspiracy, and murder. The end does not justify the means when the means are not pleasing to God. God did not call us to the Ministry of Reconciliation to be hate mongrels.
It is disgraceful for those called by His name to hate their neighbor or enemies. Jesus said: "You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” (Matthew 5:43-44, NIV). We need to get a clearer understanding of what God wants and set our minds on spiritual things. It is disingenuous to use repugnant speech against others, making them a target for malcontents. Many people come from a far country, but they also deserve prayers and supplications. I hope you know the Lord desires that no one should perish, that all people come to the knowledge of the truth. There is no glory in being unkind, merciless, or slanderous; it is disgraceful in the Lord's sight. "Pray for everyone. Ask God to help and bless them all" (1 Timothy 2:1, CEV). For those who do not know, Scripture says that God now commands all people everywhere to repent (Acts 17:30). Set your mind on spiritual things!
