Although Senatobia didn’t walk away as the winners of last Saturday’s Warrior Classic event, coach Shane Baltz’ teams had a lot to be proud of.
Both Warriors and Lady Warriors placed second overall behind event winner Hernando but more importantly, both SHS teams earned enough points to clinch the Region 1-3A title. The title now allows Senatobia to compete in this Saturday’s MHSAA 1A-3A-5A championships in Clinton.
For the SHS boys, freshman Austin Winstead placed first among 61 other competitors with a time of 18:20.50. Senior twin tandem Bryston and Braxton Taylor were not far behind at sixth and eighth, respectively, finishing with times of 19:03.50 and 19:19.70.
Additional top finishers included eighth grader Tyler Mabry at 12th overall and sophomore Benjamin Thompson at 13th. Mabry finished with a time of 19:58.10 while Thompson collected a time of 20:13.20.
Senior Anna Clark returned to normal after recovering from an early-season injury, placing third overall with a time of 22:23.00. Freshman Ella Oursler was right behind Clark in fourth place with her time of 22:35.10.
Seventh-grader Emery Oursler was the only other top finisher for the Lady Warriors, placing 12th overall with a time of 24:54.00.
In addition to Senatobia, local teams Strayhorn and Independence also competed, with the Lady Mustangs finishing sixth out of nine teams and the Lady Wildcats placing ninth overall.
Eighth-grader Sara Kate Blaine finished 11th overall as Strayhorn’s top finisher, logging a time of 24:53.70. Senior Morgan Ellis was the next highest finisher, placing 27th with a time of 26:00.50.
Independence was led by freshman Aubry Massey who collected a time of 31:16.50. Sophomore Caydence Brewer also posted a result of 31:16.70.
