Chalk up another state championship for coach Shane Baltz and the Senatobia cross country program.
After successfully taking the Class 3A state title last fall, the Warrior boys took home the trophy once again after placing first overall at the MHSAA Class 3A championship meet in Clinton last Saturday.
Senatobia had five of its runners finish in the top 10 among 65 participants for a total score of 23 points and 18:47 average, well ahead of runner-up Kossuth 19:23 average.
Freshman Austin Winstead placed first overall with a time of 18:08.30, becoming the first student-athlete in SHS history to finish as the top runner in a state championship meet. Junior Brandon Williams placed sixth (18:57.20) and senior Bryson Taylor finished seventh overall (19:06.60) to round out the top finishers for Senatobia.
Despite not placing in the top three on the girls’ side, the Senatobia Lady Warriors still experienced some success over the weekend as well. SHS placed fourth overall, behind title winner Kossuth, runner-up St. Andrew’s and third place finisher Alcorn Central.
Senior Anna Clark capped off her stellar varsity career with a sixth-place result and a time of 21:08.70, followed by rising freshman Ella Oursler’s 11th-place finish at 22:20.50.
