Senatobia couldn’t have asked for a better way to start off the month of April, as coach Shane Baltz’ powerhouse track teams swept the competition in New Albany’s Bulldog Relays last Thursday.
In 17 events for both girls’ and boys’ competition, Senatobia totaled 210 overall points for the Lady Warriors and 280 for the boys. No one else came close to catching SHS, as event host New Albany finished in second on the girls’ side with 101 points, while the Bulldog boys also earned 136.50 points.
Some of the most notable winners for the Lady Warriors included senior Anna Clark, who won both 800-meter and 3200-meter events. Sophomore Kamiyah Whiting also placed second behind Clark in the 800-meter, while freshman Ella Oursler finished second in the 3200-meter.
Sophomore Taleah Holt won first place in the 400-meter event and eighth-grader Demeria Wooten finished just behind her in second. Senior Samariya Sesson also won the discus finals, while placing second in the shot-put event.
Additionally, the Lady Warriors also won the 4x200, 4x400 and 4x800-meter relay events.
Sophomore Carlando Crump had a big day for the Senatobia boys, placing first in the 100-meter and 400-meter events. Junior Brandon Williams finished behind Crump at second place in the 400-meter, before capturing first place in the 800-meter event, just ahead of second place finisher J.C. Dunlop and third place finisher Braxton Taylor.
Freshman Austin Winstead captured first place in the 1600-meter event and placed a close second in the 3200-meter event. Sophomore JaBrysten Abram captured first place in the 110 and 300-meter hurdles, with Jaylon Blakely close behind at second and third place in both events.
Junior Jagger Young placed first in the long jump, while senior LaJoshua Jackson won both the discus and shot-put events. Sophomore Chavarius Garrett also placed second in both events.
Senatobia also won top prize in the 4x200, 4x400 and 4x800 relay events.
