The Cosmopolitan Club met for the first time this year on Jan. 5. The meeting took place at the Senatobia Police Department.
Sybil Cannon was the hostess and provided delicious food for everyone to enjoy. Jennifer Heindl, program leader, welcomed everyone and their guests. We were joined by Tate County Sheriff, Luke Shephard, and several other officers and employees of the police department.
Marilyn Bateman shared a devotional about how we have responsibilities on earth. A few of which include being loyal to our leaders regardless of political affiliation and we should pray for the leaders of our city, state and nation. We were able to put this in to practice as we gathered around the leaders and employees that were there and prayed for guidance, wisdom and protection for them.
Chief Richard Chandler was our guest speaker. He gave insight on many things that are going on with the Senatobia Police Department. They are in a new facility and have upgraded the technology that they are using for more efficiency. They strive to interact with citizens in several ways.
The officers could recently be seen shopping with kids for toys at our local Walmart. They have a program, Citizen’s Police Academy, that is approximately seven weeks long. They put citizens, who have signed up, through a mini police academy in order to see how our police train.
There are pictures throughout the building and paintings done by kids and other people in our community that serve as a reminder as to why they are here.
Cosmopolitan Club’s Vice President Ann Lamar resided over the business meeting and thanked everyone for their attendance as the meeting was adjourned.
