The facility director of a Senatobia daycare has been arrested in connection with assaulting two children at the center, according to law enforcement officials.
Lt. Brannon Rushing from the Criminal and Special Investigations Division of the Senatobia Police Department identified the suspect as Amye Durham from Peek-A-Boo Playschool at 403 Norfleet Drive. She was taken into custody Thursday, Nov. 16, and charged with two counts of simple assault and detained at the Tate County Jail under a $1,000 bond.
In a statement, Rushing said Durham was arrested a day after a complaint was filed with the Mississippi Department of Health Child Care Licensure Bureau. State investigators met with officials from SPD and determined there were two separate incidents involving two different children. Two warrants were issued for Durham’s arrest.
Rushing said the case remains under investigation by the Senatobia Police Department and independently by the Mississippi State Department of Health.
This is not the first investigation of Durham by the departments. In 2017, a four-year-old child was left at a Senatobia park after a daytime outing of the preschool. According to reports at the time, multiple complaints were made about the daycare involving injuries of children.
Both organizations are asking anyone with information about previous incidents or concerns about Peek-A-Boo Playschool to contact Rushing at 662-366-1966 or 662-578-1128.
