Lady Warriors place second
Seven runners placed within the top 10 for the Senatobia boys’ cross country team in last week’s Region 2-4A meet in New Albany, carrying the Warriors to a first place team finish.
SHS earned an 18:22 average to take top honors over runners-up South Pontotoc, third place finisher New Albany and the fourth-place team, North Pontotoc.
Senatobia also placed second in the girls’ field of competition and both teams will advance to the next stage of the postseason.
Senior Austin Winstead led SHS with a 17:11.60 mark, good enough for first place in a field of 66 runners. Jakarien Perry and Dylan Gay finished third and fourth with respective marks of 18:33.00 and 18:33.30, while sophomore Jacob Waller placed sixth with a time of 18:37.70.
Landen Crossman, Braden D’Agostino and Matthew Hoskins all placed eighth through 10th for the Warriors, with Crossman notching a mark of 18:55.70. Eighth-grader Watts Skinner also placed 13th, finishing just outside the top 10.
In girls’ competition, Senatobia finished with a 23:12 average to come in second place behind event-winner South Pontotoc. Senior Ella Oursler finished first out of 37 total runners, scoring a mark of 20:23.40, followed by senior Madison Jordan’s fifth-place result of 22:02.90.
Seventh-grader Taylor Hale earned eighth place with a 23:30.00 mark, followed by sophomore Mary Kathryn Blair’s 10th place time of 24:04.10. Freshman Aubrey Winstead rounded out the top finishers for SHS with a 16th-place result of 26:02.60.
