Sammie Lee Griffin, 73, of Como, MS, passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – Desoto, in Southaven, MS. Sammie was born on August 1, 1948, in Lambert, MS, to Lillie Mae Harrison Griffin and James O. Griffin. Sammie was an active member of Como United Methodist Church in Como. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, where he served two tours, as an air traffic controller, in Vietnam (1967-1970). Sammie loved the outdoors and enjoyed deer and duck hunting, fishing, gardening, tinkering with small engines, woodworking, and watching old westerns. He also loved NASCAR, especially #6 Mark Martin, and he was a big Alabama Football fan. Sammie was a loving husband and father and devoted friend. Left to cherish his memory, is his loving family, which includes his wife of forty-eight years, Chris Griffin and daughter, Emily Griffin, both of Como and one sister, Betty Katherine “Kathe” Daugherty and husband Gary, of Batesville. He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers, Jesse Owen “Red” Griffin, Richard Gerald Griffin, Vernon Keith Griffin, James William “J.W.” Griffin, RoyLynn Griffin, and Larry Wayne Griffin. Funeral services were held Friday, July 29, 2022, at Como United Methodist Church in Como, MS. Interment followed at Friendship Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Como, MS.
