A man arrested last year for striking a deputy from the Tate County Sheriff’s Office has been sentenced in Tate County Circuit Court.
Documents show Robert Earl Reed III, 24, of Senatobia was ordered to serve five years post-release supervision after a guilty plea on a charge of simple assault on a law enforcement officer.
Reed had his probation revoked in Tate County Circuit Court in October 2023 and is currently serving a four-year sentence in Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) on a charge of child neglect.
A report from the Tate County Sheriff’s Office states Reed was originally charged with simple assault on a law enforcement officer, disorderly conduct, disobeying a lawful order and resisting arrest following an incident May 23, 2023.
The report said deputies were dispatched to the 100 block of Willie Hibbler Road at approximately 8:21 p.m., after a disturbance was reported.
A deputy was assaulted after arriving at the residence and the suspect, identified as Reed, fled the scene. With assistance from the Senatobia Police Department, Reed was apprehended nearly an hour later in another area on Willie Hibbler Road.
Reed was detained at the Tate County Jail under a $2,000 bond and indicted by the Tate County Grand Jury in July 2023.
The deputy suffered minor injuries and was released shortly after being treated, according to the report.
