As individual disciples and members of the Body of Christ, we aim to serve God and His creation. Therefore, we endeavor to be faithful, walk righteously before the Lord, and oversee His creation by serving the people and managing the land and resources. When we use the Word of God as a guide, “the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace” (James 3:18, NASB). There is a reward for the peace we sow with quiet confidence and faith. Set your mind on building harmonious relationships. “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God” (Matt. 5:9, KJB).
Many among us claim to be peacemakers while building weapons of destruction to destroy people, unlike them. Many among us claim to be peacemakers, but in the words of the Prophet Amos, they “have turned justice into poison and the fruit of righteousness into bitterness” (Amos 6:12). They read the Word of God, pray, fast, and give generously; however, not everyone who says Lord, Lord, and do mighty works in His name will enter the kingdom of heaven (Matt. 7:21). Many of you like to say “God knows my heart” while sinning and committing acts of lawlessness. You are right; God knows your heart and can separate the pretenders from true disciples.
We are not naïve; we understand that disciples are not immune to disagreements. Life will present situations that cause tensions between individuals and groups. However, we need to resolve situations quickly, especially in the church. If there is no resolution, humanity will suffer, but we believe that all things are possible with God. So, heed the Scripture: “If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone” (Romans 12:18, CSB). If we live in a hostile environment, our squabbling will prevent individuals and the Church from adequately producing the fruit of righteousness. A peacemaker (Minister of Reconciliation) recognizes tense situations and tries to unite people and establish peace. A child of God already has a counselor, the Holy Spirit. If you know there is tension between you and someone inside or outside the church, pray and listen to the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will remind you what you need to know and do to reconcile the situation and produce the fruit of righteousness.
Who is righteous and wise among you? Working with the Ministry of Reconciliation helps us find peace for ourselves, our family, and the church family, bridges gaps, and increases the community of believers. James provides a clearer definition of wisdom and understanding. Do you now understand that wisdom is not just a matter of intellect and understanding biblical teachings; it is not about studying the Greek and Hebrew languages? Wisdom is about obeying God's Word and living a life that seeks to achieve and sustain peace. Peace begets peace, so recognize and resolve conflict. Let the peace of Christ rule your heart.
