A Como man has been charged in connection with a shooting in Tate County, according to local law enforcement officials.
Tony Rowley, investigator with the Tate County Sheriff’s Office, said Jearl L. Avant, 27, was arrested Thursday, Oct. 1, following an incident at the 40 block of Aiken Road.
Deputies were dispatched to the area Thursday, Sept. 17, after receiving reports of a shooting at approximately 1 a.m. After arriving on scene, they discovered a male subject with several gunshot wounds, according to Rowley. The victim, who was not identified by authorities, was transported to Regional One Medical Center in Memphis.
U.S. Marshals took Avant into custody in connection with the incident following an investigation. He was charged with aggravated assault and held at the Tate County Jail under a $100,000 bond.
Rowley said an investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
