Highland Hills Medical Center has partnered with North Mississippi Health Services to offer neurology consultations via telehealth at the Senatobia hospital.
Neurology hospitalists Drs. Emad Alghazo and Ali Ahmad and neurology nurse practitioner Kellie Thornton, who see hospitalized patients at North Mississippi Medical Center-Tupelo, are now extending their expertise to Senatobia patients via telehealth.
If a patient’s physician requests a neurology consultation, the hospital’s nursing staff brings mobile telehealth equipment into the patient’s room and initiates the HIPAA-compliant video connection.
“In the past, the patient may have been transferred to another hospital for neurological care, or we may have referred them to a neurologist after being discharged from the hospital,” said Jenny Miller, chief nursing officer for Highland Hills Medical Center. “Thanks to this new partnership, patients can stay local for the timely, specialized care they need.”
NMHS is providing training and technical support for the program. “Providing neurology consultations in Senatobia is one example of how we’re partnering with other health care organizations to improve access to services and ensure the best possible outcomes for area patients,” said David Wilson, president of North Mississippi Medical Center-Tupelo and chief operating officer of North Mississippi Health Services.
